These two pictures are from my two field placements before my student teaching. The picture above is from my first field placement, a kindergarten class in Avondale School District. The picture to the left is from my second field placement, which was a third-grade classroom in Chippewa Valley Schools. My final field, as I mentioned before, was in Utica Community Schools virtual academy. I was placed in fifth grade. Sadly because of FERPA laws, I can not show you any pictures from my student teaching year. However, I will have the memories in my head, and I will never forget this class or the year I had. The header picture is from my student teaching year. I was giving directions to students, and I hit the print screen button and cropped the picture so it is only me.
For my first two field placements, I stayed until the end of their semesters since I was having so much fun with the kids. In the end, the teachers I was with trusted me to to sub for them; since I was not a legal sub, they would have to get someone to watch me teach the class. For example, my kindergarten placement was from January to April. I came every day until the last day of school which was June. And for my third grade placement, I stayed an extra two weeks until they went on winter break. I was planning to visit, but covid hit, and I could not go back. I want to say I have grown throughout the program by learning and implementing the ideas we have learned during classes; even though I could not try everything I wanted to because we were virtual, what I have tried, I think has worked. For example, for the first assessment I gave was project-based instead of a test. I wanted to try it because I love doing projects, and this was a group project which was something new that I wanted to try in virtual, and it worked well. Usually, I am not a social person and am a shy guy, but this year I got out of my shell and interacted and talked to almost everyone in the building. Over the years, I got better at participating in classes and sharing my ideas. When I started in the education program, I did not say anything except when I was called on or in group presentations. I also learned that it is okay to make mistakes. It is okay to share those mistakes with your classmates. The big one I have been struggling with since I was a kid in kindergarten, is asking for help when I need it. This is something that I have worked hard on and made real progress on. I think there is more work to be done in this area, but I am impressed with my progress in the education program. |
