All about me
I was a special education student from Pre K- 1st grade. I had a speech problem where I could not express myself in words. Because of all my excellent teachers' help, I overcame that difficulty and was put in mainstream class in 2nd grade. My goal as a teacher is to help these students to feel comfortable in a mainstream class. I was retained in preschool because I could not do anything by myself, so my parents decided to retain me. Let me tell you that it was the best decision my parents made regarding my education. Because of my speech problem, I attended two schools, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, and this was in preschool. In Kindergarten and 1st grade, I went to Dooley Elementary School in Fraser. After that, I attended Utica Community Schools from 2-12th grade. I went to DeKeyser and Heritage, and I graduated high school from the Utica Academy for International Studies in 2014. For college, I attended Oakland University, but I choose Health Science. I was not too fond of the health science field, so I went to the IT field for two years. I did not particularly appreciate sitting in front of a computer, so I finally convinced my parents that I should be a teacher. My grade point average at the time I entered the education field was 2.0. I needed 2.8 to get into the program. In the end, I am proud to say that I have a GPA of 3.28. It did not come easy. I had to work for that. That is something that I am known for —if I want it, I will have the drive to complete it and go through with it. After all that effort, I am proud to say I will be graduating in May 2021 with a B.S in Elementary education and a teaching certificate with an endorsement in social studies. For my student teaching, I was part of the pilot virtual academy in Utica Community Schools. I was in a fifth grade classroom. After spring break I will be the long term sub for a second grade classroom in the building I student taught in. |
Education Philosophy
My education philosophy is making sure everyone has an equal education This can take on many forms. The first way is political where funding of schools is something we should lobby for. The second way is in the classroom by ensuring everyone is welcomed and gets the same education regardless of what their background is. Increasing education funding to pre-1995 is one of my goals as a politician when I get to the Michigan House and Senate in 30 years. Since 1995, education funding in Michigan has declined by 85%.
In the classroom, I want to make sure all students feel welcome. Here are a few ways I can do this: The first is to make sure I will not call out a student in my class for something they have done wrong. I will pull them aside and have a private conversation with that student. Another thing is not to add any unnecessary stress to the student. I am keeping in mind that all students have a different home life, and not to judge a student. If they make a mistake one day, forget about it the next day and let them have a fresh start every day. Those are my two ways that I can try to make every student feel welcome in my classroom. |
